Iraq – Daesh Resurface or Repurposed

ISIS have resurfaced either in disguise or in small cells possibly acting as mercenaries for Iranian militias.

In recent times the rise of drone attacks have become a concern, particularly to US Forces (here)

“In April, a drone strike targeted a CIA hangar inside the airport complex in the northern city of Irbil, according to officials familiar with the matter. The drone’s flight was tracked to within 10 miles of the site, but its path was then lost as it moved into a civilian flight path, the coalition officials.

The video below is a familiar scenario from 2014 – 2015. The targets are either followed home or given a surprise visit. The attacks are performed by a minimum of attackers capable of exerting extreme violence.

Iraq militia Chief arrested over drone attack of US Base. (here)

Iraqi security forces on Wednesday arrested militia commander Qasim Muslih, the military said, in a move security sources said was linked to attacks on a base that hosts U.S. forces.

Muslih was arrested at dawn and is being questioned on anti-terrorism charges, a military statement said, without giving further details.

Two security sources told Reuters the militia chief was arrested in Baghdad for involvement in several attacks including recent assaults on Ain al-Asad air base, where U.S. and other international forces are housed.

Muslih is the Anbar province head of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), a grouping of mostly Shi’ite militias backed by Iran, which the United States regards as the biggest threat to security in the Middle East.

Convicted Terrorist – Citizenship Stripped Onshore

The Federal Government has cancelled the citizenship of Abdul Nacer Benbrika, one of Australia’s most notorious terrorists, ahead of his expected release from a Victorian prison.

Benbrika was jailed for 12 years in 2008 for his role in a plot to attack a number of targets in Victoria and New South Wales.

Benbrika

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton confirmed the Government had now revoked Benbrika’s Australian citizenship.

“I cancelled the Australian citizenship of convicted terrorist Benbrika, [making him] the first individual to have lost citizenship onshore.”

“He has been notified of the citizenship loss and he will remain in prison while an interim detention order is in place.”

Under current laws, the Federal Government can only strip citizenship from people who have been sentenced to at least six years in jail.
